What a free ATS checker actually scores on your resume
September 1, 2026 · free ATS checker
A free ATS checker is not a hiring decision. It is a language overlap test: one resume, one job description, and the nouns an applicant tracking system is likely to gate on.
A free ATS checker scores overlap, not your career
A free ATS checker does not decide whether you get the interview. It estimates how much of the job description already lives in the document you will upload. Applicant tracking systems parse headings, skills, and role nouns first. If those strings do not overlap, the CV can rank low before a recruiter reads a line.
ORU CV is a free ATS checker online built for that single pass. Paste the posting, drop a PDF or DOCX, and read a score plus the keywords that were missing.
What the parser actually gates on
Most ATS engines are closer to a structured search than to a human. They look for:
- Standard headings such as Experience, Education, Skills, and Certifications
- Tools, methods, and licenses written the same way the posting writes them
- Nouns that survive PDF extraction — not text locked inside images or decorative tables
If the job says “warehouse management” and the resume says “looked after stock,” a free ATS checker will usually treat that as a miss. Mirror the posting’s nouns only where they are honest.
How to use a free ATS checker without gaming it
- Paste the full job description, not a two-line summary.
- Upload the file you will actually submit.
- Change one cluster of missing keywords, then scan again.
- Stop when the language is true. A 100 score is not a job offer.
ORU CV parses the resume in your browser. The file is not stored on our servers. Optional rewrite lines use a Gemini key that stays on your device.
Layouts that quietly fail a free ATS checker
Creative templates often hide the words the parser needs:
- Contact details in headers or footers
- Skills sitting only in icons or skill bars
- Multi-column tables used as a page grid
- Headings that read like poetry instead of Experience or Skills
A single-column PDF or DOCX with ordinary headings is the format a free ATS checker — and most employer systems — can actually read.
UAE and GCC postings still need the same nouns
If you are targeting roles in the UAE or the wider GCC, paste that local posting. Logistics, banking, healthcare, and tech each carry their own stack of tools. A free ATS checker online does not replace Arabic or English fluency. It shows whether this one CV already speaks the language of this one vacancy.
What to do after the score
Use the missing-keyword list as a checklist, not a script. Add a tool you used. Rename a heading. Pull a method from a bullet that currently hides it. Then run the free ATS checker once more. The point is one living document, retuned to the role in front of you.
When you want the score itself, open the free ATS checker console. For layout rules, keep the ATS resume tips next to the scan.
